Christmas in July??
Jul. 4th, 2009 | 06:28 pm
They're playing "Give Love on Christmas Day" on the radio.
It's only JULY FOUR.
I don't know if they're playing it because of Michael Jackson or because they really want to start the holiday season in July. (It usually begins in September here....)

Been interning at this design firm in Makati. Pretty much doing grunt work, but it's DESIGN grunt work, lol. Right wrist kinda hurts though. ^^;;;
It's pretty fun, nice to be productive. I don't know why I didn't just go into graphic design in the first place. I don't claim to be some brilliant design genius but I don't have to struggle as much. I hope I can make something out of this.. =A=

- May 1 is Free Comic Book Day.
- Chaparral Pro is my new favorite font.
- Four is the number of comic pages that need to be done, limitless if one were to do thumbnails.
- Thirteen are the pages that need to be redone for the Calligraphy book.
- Eight, the number of Sesame Street bellhop clips I could find. I'm a sucker for art deco. Have another one, non-Sesame but this is a real classic.
- Two weeks till school ends.
Crap.

day in a nutshell
Apr. 21st, 2009 | 02:12 am
Apparently everyone and their mom have snapped up every single pad of 14x17 Canson C à grain Drawing Pad in San Francisco. Most of my day(after school, that is) was spent running(well, mostly riding the bus and walking, but there definitely was some pathetic running involved in a hopeless attempt to run after the 22 bus) all over town in efforts to locate what is currently the equivalent of the Holy Grail to me. Personally I am willing to settle for another brand but current circumstances do not allow it -- the final project for Calligraphy is to have the pages bound, and the pages have to be consistent.
I have to admit though, even if the instructor didn't require consistency in terms of paper, I probably wouldn't be too happy with the inconsistency in quality.
Had I known that the paper would be this hard to get, I probably would've just gone for the cream colored one, which happens to be available in pretty much every place I visited -- practically every art supply store in the city, although there are probably still some I haven't checked yet(I know there's one) and another that I haven't doublechecked. Or I can just make the trek to the Oakland/Berkeley and pray that whatever fare I pay won't go to waste, although I did call the Blick store in Berkeley and they can't find it. Maybe it's my shitty English that's confusing the crap out of them, even when I spelled it out for the person on the phone.
But C à grain isn't even English! Can somebody who speaks French tell me how to properly pronounce it?
Anyway...
Weather was horrible, in San Francisco standards. I guess if you love the sun and all, it's awesome, but if you're not used to this kind of heat, like me. (It's different from the one back home..this one's all dry and stuff) It was burning outside. The fact that it was April 20 did not help either. Buses were fucking slow. You could smell pot practically everywhere, people were openly smoking joints and bongs. You gotta admire everybody's dedication to lost causes. If only everyone would put this much effort into solving the world's problems, ha ha ha.
I don't really understand why they're still insisting on legalizing pot. The woman sitting next to me on the 38 had two huge bags of weed and nobody went after her.
And to those with Ben and Jerry's stores in their hometowns, it's free cone day today, although I've yet to figure out how to get one. Nearest one's in the Haight, which is a tourist trap as always, and I guess the whole city is right now. It's been a bit busier than usual..
(I envy my younger sister, they have a Ben and Jerry's at their school cafeteria and apparently last year she managed to stand in line thrice, lol.)

2008's gone. But not quite yet.
Back when I still had to take quizzes, I'd often write the name of the previous year for the first quiz of the new quarter.

Your baggage has been located. It will be transported on the next available flight. Please note, while delayed baggage is a priority, not all scheduled flights can accommodate additional baggage. We've listed the anticipated flight operated by United, United Express, or Ted. Once it arrives, you will be contacted to arrange a convenient time for delivery. We thank you for your patience.
Fuck you United Airlines! Surely there's at least one plane from Denver that has arrived in Toronto within the last 24 hours! Thanks for reimbursing the 150 I had to pay for missing my original flight, but something really has to be done about this. Services are way too fucking inefficient........ GAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
I tried calling the 1-800 number on their site and all it did was direct me to a call center in Manila(I can tell from the accent), where the only info they had was the same info I get from logging on bagtrack. >__________>
Meanwhile I've just been washing and rewearing what I had on when I got here. =_=

Crunch Time

awake
Most likely the first of three straight nights of cramming. (What's left? Get process book bound, finish color and design assignment, find a way to punch holes into the take-out boxes and the gift bag) I spent almost the entire day in school yesterday. Never spent so much time at school during non-school hours as I have this semester. Empty classrooms are nice. I think I'll do homework in school during the weekends next semester. It's quiet and free from distraction.
Could make up for sleep by sleeping on the train...
Surprise, surprise! Flash drive with the Keroro charm -- the supposed lost flash drive, magically resurfaced as I lifted the laundry bag in order to do laundry yesterday morning. Rather unexpected. The said flash drive seems to like clothes. I previously thought that I lost it before when I still lived in the dorms. It ended up being in my pocket. I noticed it after I was folding my laundry.
I just tore out some sheets from the newsprint pad.. 8-10 of your best drawings, we were told to pick. I felt bad seeing my work, because there wasn't enough improvement. I still use thick lines and Hopper-esque eyes. Everybody looks like their lives were sucked out of them. Rendering skills are still shit. Will just have to work ten, if not a hundred or even a thousand, times as hard next semester.
Cram, cram, cram. On Thursday, will be Toronto-bound. Never been to the land of maple leaves, moose, mounties and donuts. Should be exciting. I can't wait. Snoooooow.
